I bought the iReader (the hardware required for this software) because instead of a flash drive with in-expandable space, it takes a micro SD card. I paid only $20 for the lightning/usb card reader and already had a 64GB micro SD (the fastest kind available). Dont try using this with a cheap, generic card. Anyway, the USB 3.0 transfer speed is extremely fast, and all you have to do is just drag & drop anything you want to put on the drive. You can set up folders however you want. As soon as I connected the iReader to my phone after putting a couple videos and some music on it, a message popped up that brought me directly to the appstore to download this free app.
The interface is pretty straightforward, however, it appears that not all of the features work yet. But, its pretty much idiot-proof as far as playing music and vidoes go, and importing & backing up contacts and photos is also self-explanatory. There are some other options that just seem to put you in a loop, such as importing files to and from the phone. I havent had it long enough to say for sure if this is a bug, or just not as "plug & play" as the other fearures.
My absolute favorite thing about this device/app is that you can play music and videos directly from the external device. I like the ability to have my entire music collection available, offline, at all times. This does the trick. And, its far cheaper to buy a micro sd card with more storage space than it is to have to re-purchase a flash drive.
I hope they do make the menus a bit more clear in the next version. Also, a help section would also be nice, as some features dont seem to be enabled when you tap on what you think should be the correct option.
Anyone looking to expand their storage, anyone who may be frustrated with newer versions of iTunes, and/or anyone who got a 16 or 32GB phone and regretted it, will love this handy device and app. And for $20 + the cost of a high quality, fast transfer rate micro SD card (try amazon), this most certainly beats paying $40 minimum for a 16GB flash drive with no storage expansion possible.
